Curricular Change Considerations

ACTIVE

Effective Start Date:02/10/2011 End Date:Current

With the new concentrations and certificate programs you have encountered students who have submitted request to have updates made to their student accounts. In order for any update to be made to the student record the student must have a future term in which he or she will be enrolled. Please see the scenarios below regarding updating student accounts:

Specific to all programs:

Scenario A:

During the 201130 term an MBA student informs you that she would like to add a LED certificate to her course of study. This student has 3 courses outstanding beyond the 201130 term. This student meets the criteria to have the LED certificate added to her student account as there are courses outstanding and a student record may be created for the future term.

Specific to MBA looking to change to MBA MGT

Scenario B:

During the 201130 term an MBA student informs you that he would like to add the management concentration to his student record. Review of the student account indicates that the student will be sitting in capstone during the 201130 term. This student does not meet the criteria to have the concentration added to his student record as there will not be a future term for the student record to be updated.

Scenario C:

During the 201130 term an MBA student informs you that he would like to add the management concentration to his student record and that he will sit out the winter term as he only has capstone outstanding due to work conflicts. As the student has capstone outstanding and no other additional courses the student does not meet the criteria to have his record updated. The student cannot postpone the completion of his program to have the record updated for a future term. The reason for this is the student has not really been following the MBA MGT curriculum as it was not an option at the time. This is an update from what we had previously discussed as Steve has indicated that students should not be permitted to add the concentration at this point.

Effective Start Date:10/22/2010 End Date:Current

As students may only make changes to their records for future terms, a student sitting in their last term (i.e. fall 201120) cannot update their record to have it reflect a change in program title as there will not be any additional course work that will fall in a future term.

Record updates are only permitted when a student has outstanding course work that will occur in a future term in which course work will need to be completed.

Effective Start Date:10/05/2010 End Date:Current

Students who wish to change their curriculum during a current term already in progress can only be updated in a future term. Students will not be permitted to move back their curriculum to a previous term, aka a past curriculum year. When students change their program of study from one academic year to a new academic year the students are subject to any new curriculum requirements. Previous course work taken must be reviewed to see if any will come over to the new curriculum. This is not a guarantee. Make sure to fill out a curriculum review form and send to Michelle for Steve to review or Aimee for MACC/MTAX programs.

Please note a student’s catalog year will be moved to the next term if the advisor is informed in writing by the student once the current term has started.

Due to the most recent changes that we all were not aware of back in summer an exception will be granted for those students who meet the following criteria: Prior to us knowing that there would be changes to the curriculum for the fall term some of you may have had conversations with your students about changing the modality in which they were taking classes (i.e. MBA ENT day to MBA ENT evening/online or vice versa). After these discussions your student would have sent you an email to have their record updated. If the discussion occurred during the summer term and the record has already been updated for the fall term prior to the new curriculum we were given, we will allow those students to be updated with the summer 201110 catalog so that they will not be impacted by the loss of credits. You the advisor will still need to update Banner in SFAREGS.
