GDBA Transition to Office of Academic Advising Key Points

  • Students will take courses in a cohort grouping, classes will be identified by Office of Academic Advising
    • If a student needs a different course please consult with the Assistant Director of Graduate Advising to determine if an exemption can be made to allow a student to register for additional courses or if another course is needed.
  • Are students permitted to take other CRN’s or courses? online? Do they need to have further information sent to them about Blackboard?
    • Students should only register for the identified classes that I will provide to you each term. The program is being taught as a cohort/cluster so they will need to follow the course offerings provided to them. With the exception of those students who may have already taken a course identified as part of the curriculum. In that case I will make an adjustment to the schedule for the designated term for continuing students only.
    • The only class that will be taken online will be MKTP 5005 as that is the only format it is offered in. As students will be taking the course online they will need to be informed of the blackboard tutorials.
  • A student list for the program will be maintained on the SBE Evals shared drive. A report may be run via HSPortal however the list in the shared drive is the most up to date based on the information provided by the GDBA program coordinators in the Hudson Institute.
  • Student in GDBA program will follow the Master’s Calendar for the following:
    • Registration Deadlines
    • Late Fees
    • Drop and Withdrawal Deadlines
    • Payment Policy
  • International students must take at least 6 credits a term with at least one ground course to maintain international status
  • Time frame to complete program is 5 years
  • GDBA program is not financial aid eligible
  • SHADEGR should reflect accurately on the student records
  • If students have not started the program and were admitted for an earlier term admissions will need to update the record to reflect the deferred start date (Last start term will be October 2010, Fall 201120).
  • Students will have to be registered for classes by an advisor by completing a student transaction form
  • Students will have to complete a student transaction form to drop or withdraw from classes
  • To schedule appointment student will need to call front *Student rate of tuition is $535 per credit for all level courses for the 2010-2011 academic year
    • Elective courses
    • Students who have completed MGT 5005 will not need elective courses.
    • MKT 5017 and MGT 5012 are the two courses that will be the elective options taken by student who have not completed MGT 5005 (these course may change pending changes to prerequisite requirements to the course)
  • Criteria to Have Courses Applied to MBA program
    • Student must earn at least a grade of “B” or higher in graduate level classes to have them brought into the applicable Huizenga School program.
    • Student must earn at least a grade of “C” or higher in ACTP 5001, FINP 5008, MKTP 5005, QNTP 5002 and ENCP 5003
    • Non credit workshop classes MGT 5110, 5111 and 5112 can only be applied to the MBA-day curriculum if passed. The classes are pass/fail.
  • Academic standards for the program are as follows:
    • Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA in order to complete diploma program (2 B policy does not apply to this program)
    • Students who do not meet the 2.0 GPA criteria will be placed on probation and will have one term in which to raise the GPA. If the GPA does not meet the criteria after the second term the student will be suspended from the program without the option for reentry.
    • Students will be able to graduate with the 2.0 and will not be able to be admitted into the program if they do not meet the admission requirements.
  • Commencement Ceremony
    • The GDBA program does not have a commencement ceremony nor do they attend the general commencement ceremony held in June. In addition once the program is completed there are no certificates issues. A letter is generated for the Huizenga admissions department indicating that students GPA and diploma program. I have obtained a copy of this letter from Grisell and will provide the letters to admissions.
    • Jason will not be processing degree conferral for this program as these students do not complete a degree application. Once you have completed the initial review of the student record please submit to me for review and the request for the letter for NSU’s admission department.
  • Certificates - Executive Education (Hudson Institute) should continue offering the certificate to the student, and will be the ones to manage and creates it for the student.
