The following communication was sent out to all active Master’s students informing them about the change in financial aid and prerequisites being covered.
Students admitted into the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business Entrepreneurship who are registered for prerequisite courses only are not eligible for federal financial aid as indicated in the catalog. Students who are registered in an eligible degree-seeking course and a prerequisite course may receive federal financial aid.
Students with questions concerning registration or adding an eligible course should contact their academic advisors. Students can schedule an appointment at http://www.huizenga.nova.edu/AdvisorCal/ or call (954) 262-5067.
Students with questions concerning their financial aid should contact 1-800-541-6682 ext 23380 or finaid@nova.edu for assistance.
Per Sheila Gonsalves, the Director of Financial Aid Awarding, FWS and Veterans Benefits, effective this Spring term for master’s students, persons only pursuing the undergraduate equivalent prerequisites without a “regular” graduate course in the same term will NOT get financial aid. For the past several terms, students have received aid when “only” doing the prerequisites.
Financial aid has flagged such students only doing prerequisites and their aid will be held back from distribution to them.
For some courses and programs there will be an impact on enrollment given admission criteria and undergraduate coursework needed for program commencement. However it appears financial aid cannot bend on this requirement so we’ll have to work with it.
Per the Assistant Director for MACC/MTAX:
ALL 8 prerequisites must be taken prior to any student taking a course from the core curriculum. The only exceptions (when space is available) are: TXX 5761, TXX 5762, and MGT 5782.
Also, many students might complain that if they have to take prereqs, they are wasting their time because they want to sit for the CPA exam. NOT SO. Our prerequisites (with the exception of Principles) all count towards the CPA exam.
Students should be directed to the HSPortal for chat dates and times. This is very important so that students do not register for conflicting courses. The chat dates and times (along with a CPA checklist) are located under the GRADUATE PROGRAM module in the portal.
