Guidelines by which to advise former Jamaica SEC students.

1.Students who express interest in taking CLEP or Dantes to fulfill course requirements may do so after the traditional 24 credit hour limit. However, students must provide passing scores no later than the end of their first term enrolled back at NSU. They have one semester in order to complete the requirement if they have exceeded the 24 credit hour limit.

2. Returning students must adhere to the catalog year (and programs) appropriate for their returning term. Since we do not offer the BPM program anymore (and haven’t done so in years), students will be provided the option to pursue one of our other current degree programs.

3.If a student could complete the BPM program within one term of returning to NSU, advisors may request that the student be “grandfathered” into the old curriculum. These requests should go directly to Steve Harvey.

These students, like other BPM students, will be reviewed on a case by case basis by the Director of Academic Advising. Ultimately, the Assistanct Dean makes the final decision. In general, those students were given ample notice to finish up. If they come back several years from now, it is less likely that the old curriculum would be honored. However, if there is a compelling case for approving the request, it will be considered. The factors to be considered are

1. How many courses do they have left?

2. How long have they been out?

3. Why haven’t they been enrolled?

These are just some guidelines to follow when deciding whether to move forward with a request.
